Services
New Leaf Alternative works with the Utah State Department of Human Services, through the Division of Youth Corrections, The Division of Child and Family Services, and the Division of Special People with Disabilities providing contract services for clients referred to our program.
The population ranges from ages 0-21 and Adult Services for DSPD. Our goal is to return our clients to their homes when possible and to the community as adults with skills, knowledge, and understanding that they will need to contribute productively to their communities while remaining crime-free.
Tracking/Supervision
New Leaf "tracker", maintain daily contact with their assigned clients and provide continual updated to Case Managers.
A distinct function of New Leaf trackers is to arrange and coordinate all services indicated in the client's Treatment Plan. They also serve as the critical communications link between all individuals who provide specific services to a client (e.g. proctors, therapist, teachers, etc.), helping ensure a properly focused effort on behalf of the client.
Community Placement
The primary responsibility of these proctors is to provide a stable "home" environment, including basic necessities such as food, shelter, and adequate sleeping and bathing facilities. New Leaf proctors also provide daily in-home programming and supervision in both fundamental and advanced living skills.
The second phase of placement is for those clients who have progressed out of proctor and either returned to their own homes or moved into independent living. This phase allows them the greatest degree of freedom within their communities while still under the custody of Youth Corrections.
Therapy
The focus of New Leaf therapy is to help clients gain greater insight and understanding into the behaviors that brought them to Youth Correction's custody, as well as resolve issues that may hinder their progress toward termination. This is accomplished in a relaxed, non-threatening environment where clients feel comfortable discussing their issues.
To accomplish therapy goals, therapist must use individual, family, and group therapy. Optimally, all three are utilized in the course of a client's treatment. While behavioral interventions are utilized when needed, confrontational and controlling therapeutic approaches are seldom used, and minimized as much as possible.
Medicaid Intake Assessments are done as appropriate to assist program planning and therapeutic goals.
